Bed Net Distribution Partners

Spread the Net and Plan Canada are working in partnership to provide 25,000 long lasting insecticidal bed nets to families living in malaria-endemic Guinea, West Africa. Together, Spread the Net and Plan Canada are mobilizing Canadians through fundraising efforts and awareness campaigns to ensure that families in Guinea receive life-saving bed nets, effective training on usage, and health education.

Plan has been working in Guinea since 1989, helping poor children to access their rights to education, health, sanitation and protection. Plan Guinea works to build the capacity of health centres and to help educate communities on health issues, including how to prevent diseases such as malaria and cholera, safe childbirth practices, and reproductive sexual health. Spread the Net and Buy-A-Net Malaria Prevention Group (BAN) have partnered for two bed net distribution projects since 2011.  To date, STN, BAN and BAN's on the ground networks have successfully procured and distributed 2,650 WHO approved long-lasting insecticide treated bed nets to families in Kawempe, a district in Uganda’s capital city, Kampala. Unicef
Spread the Net and UNICEF Canada worked in partnership to raise the founding goal of $5,000,000 in support of UNICEF’s bed net distribution programs in Liberia and Rwanda. Thanks to the generosity of Canadians coast to coast, 250,000 nets were procured and delivered to children and families in Liberia and Rwanda. Visit www.unicef.ca

   

General Support

Spread the Net has joined in partnership with The Mosquitoes Suck Tour to squash out malaria! In 2011 & 2012, Canadian high schools can book a Mosquitoes Suck Tour event at their school and help raise funds and awareness in the fight against malaria. All proceeds from each MST show goes towards buying bed nets for people living in malaria-endemic regions in Africa. TBFF

In 2011, young Canadian leaders inspired by faith are serving as ambassadors of inter-religious cooperation through The Tony Blair Faith Foundation's Faiths Act Fellowship Program. These Canadian Fellows will be joining Fellows from the United States, the United Kingdom and India on a mission to address the United Nation's Millenium Development Goals, with an emphasis on the eradiction of malaria.

In 2010, the Fellows raised over $18,000 to support Spread the Net in partnership with UNICEF Canada in providing insecticide treated bed nets to families in Africa.
