Hello, my name is ______________ (403) and I need your help. I am trying to raise money to fight the horrible disease of Malaria in Africa. I have developed an idea to raise money to help called NET-WORKING. I know I can count on_________students for help so that is why I am asking you to do this.
What is Malaria? : Malaria is a long lasting blood disease that is often fatal. In Africa, Malaria is the largest single cause of death for children under the age of 5. Malaria is the cause of up to 750,000 deaths in Africa each year and without our help this number can double in 20 years. Thats 1.5 MILLION human beings. This disease is transmitted by the mosquitos in Africa. A certain thing called a bednet can save up to 5 lives (since often , more than one child shares a bed)! A Bednet over a bed at night can help reduce the child mortality rate from Malaria by up to 25%!!
What is a bednet? : Malaria is transmitted by mosquitos. and mosquitos in Africa usally come during nightime when families are sleeping. If kids are covered by a net
while they sleep, it reduces their chance of getting Malaria by 25%! Plus, the nets are covered in insecticide that kill the mosquitos on contact with the net.
How does NET-WORKING work? : From Monday November 19th, 2007 until Monday November 26th, 2007 I am asking you, my fellow students, to work a bit to buy a net. All you have to do is sign the contract below promising you will do a chore that you don’t usually do in exchange for a donation of 2$. Your parents sign , too. Your parents can then send the money to school in an envelope marked Net-Working. Don’t forget, maybe your friends, neighbors, grandparents need chores done, too! (Each chore is 2$)
For every ten dollars we raise, one bednet gets purchased and donated to Africa. This donation will be going to http://www.spreadthenet.org/ and UNICEF. I will write them to explain how hard you all worked for this donation to happen. Also, if you can, I would like to ask your parents or guardians to take a picture of you doing your chore. I will make a collage of all the pictures and hang it in the school so you can all be proud that you are making a difference!
